Next Srùbag No. 54 – Cèilidh Seinn na Gàidhlig – Gaelic Song Ceilidh – Friday 4 September 2025 7.30-9.30pm UK / Ireland time.
We are delighted to invite you to our next and 54th Srùbag. Our special Guest is Nuala Mac Lochlainn, who will sing songs in Irish. As well, we will have the usual participatory singaround – songs in Scottish and Irish Gaelic, Welsh and Breton please! All are welcome to join us to sing a song or to listen!
Nuala was born in Dublin, later moved to Derry and then Donegal, and retired to Co Kildare. Her childhood home was bilingual and full of songs and siblings. Her mother Fionnuala recorded (in Gaeilge) for Gael Linn. They always spoke together in Gaeilge, and still sing together when Nuala visits. Her father Alf worked in the National Library so he would dig out and bring home old versions of songs – the family were especially fascinated by some written in a strange ‘English phonetic’ way. Nuala has been a Secondary school teacher most of her life, and generally has sung…… whenever asked! (So, we are asking…) Recently she has been studying sean-nós more formally with Eithne Ní Chatháin in the Cobblestone in Dublin. Nuala says, it has been great to enlarge her repertoire, and get a chance to sing with others sharing her obsession!
